Consistent with our commitment to delivering a healthy, balanced, and healing human experience, we offer neurofeedback as a standard part of each clients treatment program. As a non-invasive, drug-free, brain training system, Neurofeedback uses real-time computer analysis of brainwave activity (EEG) to optimize whole-brain function. Over time, your brain will learn to balance and optimize its own performance. This type of training can result in increased cognitive functioning, resilience, emotion regulation, better decision-making, and much more.
Neurofeedback has now become a common tool in helping to treat individuals with various types of mental health issues. At Helix Healing & Recovery we believe in the benefits of neurofeedback therapy and encourage our residents to participate in regular sessions throughout their treatment stay. All sessions are held at our beautiful home and facilitated by a licensed neurofeedback practitioner. As part of each resident's admission, they will be provided with 8 initial sessions then will subsequently decide about continuing sessions thereafter.
Neurofeedback is designed to focus on training your central nervous system -- the controller of all functions in the human body. It trains your brain to be more flexible, resilient, and balanced by giving feedback to your brain through music in a way that helps it learn to function optimally in all areas. Each brain training session lasts one hour. The practitioner attaches two tiny sensors your scalp and three clips on your ears to pick up your brainwaves much like a stethoscope listens to a heartbeat. Nothing invasive is involved with the training process and there is no electricity entering the head. This process is naturopathic and merely uses music to encourage your brain to relax and improve focus. You don’t have to do anything but sit back and relax!
Remember, neurofeedback is non-invasive so it is highly unlikely you will feel anything other than relaxed after a session is completed. There are no known side effects. You get results because your brain is actively learning how to remain in a balanced state and heal itself at the neural level. So, much like riding a bike, once your brain knows how to do this, it doesn’t forget. Most people require between 20 and 60 sessions to balance brain activity, solidify overall brain health, and increase feelings of stability and wellness.
